SopranoSonya Headlam enjoys a vibrant career performing music that spans the Baroqueto the 21st century. She has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras andensembles including the New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra —where she made her debut in Handel's Messiah — the Indianapolis Symphony,Milwaukee Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, New World Symphony, Canada'sNational Arts Centre Orchestra, and Apollo's Fire, with whom she made anacclaimed Severance Hall debut. A committed advocate of new music, she hasperformed works by Ellen Reid, Tyshawn Sorey with the Choir of Trinity WallStreet, and Julia Wolfe's Steel Hammer with the Bang on a Can All-Stars atCarnegie Hall. Born of Jamaican parentage, she holds a Doctorate in Vocal Performancefrom Rutgers University.
