Meng-Chien “Marco” Chen

Meng-Chien Chen is a clarinetist with extensive orchestral experiences across the United States and Taiwan. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Chen’s orchestral career includes collaboration with a myriad of orchestras such as National Symphony Orchestra(Taiwan), Taipei Symphony Orchestra, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Mankato Symphony Orchestra, Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, Apollo Orchestra, and Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Chen also previously served as Acting Associate Principal/Bass Clarinet for the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra in 2021. Throughout this career, Chen has performed under the baton of conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Jun Märkl, Eliahu Inbal, Kuokman Liu, and Lan Shui. Chen was featured as a soloist performing C. M. von Weber’s Clarinet Concertino with the Taichung United Symphony Orchestra in 2021 as well.

Chen was awarded First Runner-up at the 2024 Medici International Music Competition in London. He was also named First Runner-up at the Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition in Taiwan during 2018.

Chen holds a Graduate Performance Diploma from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Master of Music from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and Bachelor of Music from the Taipei National University of the Arts. Chen has studied under the guidance of instructors including SangYoon Kim, YaoGuang Zhai, Chad Burrow, Daniel Gilbert, and Ti Huang.
