Gilchrist Music Education Center Opens at the Orpheum

June 16, 2026

The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra celebrated the opening of the Gilchrist Music Education Center with a ribbon cutting on June 16, 2026, bringing together students, families, community leaders and supporters at the historic Orpheum Theatre.

Located within the Orpheum, the 2,800-square-foot center is the permanent home for the orchestra’s educational outreach and youth programs. It houses the SCSO music library, rehearsal and recording spaces, and climate-controlled storage for instruments and a historical music collection dating back more than a century.

The center gives young musicians access to educational resources and creates new opportunities for schools and community partners to take part in music programming throughout Siouxland.

The project was made possible by a $475,000 grant from the Gilchrist Foundation, with support from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra is grateful to both partners for investing in music education for the next generation.
